In his famous book "Building the Balalaika" James H. Flynn wrote: "Aquiring tuning machines for the balalaika has been a problem... As of this date such machines are not available outside of the Soviet Union." It is no longer! Now we have tuning pegs (machines) for the balalaika. Imperskaya Music is the only company in the US that sells them. Our tuning pegs are designed specially for the Prima balalaika. They are intended to be completely recessed into the head of balalaika and covered with a metal plate (See picture). Sometimes balalaika makers use wooden, plastic or even felt plates.
